Leather is a natural product with many variations in its color and graining. It takes an exceptional understanding of the upholstery process to anticipate how these characteristics will work best to create the most beautiful piece of furniture.
Leather Living is specialized in leather. We understand the importance of consistent color and grain as well as
the value and characteristics of the natural markings inherent to fine upholstery leathers. An Italian pattern maker with many years of experience carefully specifies the best placement for the unique characteristics found on leather hides. We determined early on that to be the best meant focusing on where we wanted to excel. This meant specializing in leather.
How We Select
Leather is a fashion, just like fabric. We observe the hottest trends in colors and textures to select the best for our customers. We offer a wide selection of over 70 colors in 11 different grades for a variety of different looks. Our color palette ranges from soft white and creamy butter to bold red and dramatic black, with a full spectrum in between including many luscious browns and camel colors. We maintain this selection by constantly working with quality tanneries to ensure we have the best they have to offer.
Just as individual planks in wood flooring have their own distinct graining patterns and colors, every hide has its own characteristics. We strive to ensure this natural beauty is utilized to create a more distinct and beautiful piece of custom furniture for your home. Over the years, the character of natural leathers will grow even richer, developing their own unique look.
Leather Living, we only use premium full- and top-grain leathers from the best hides, the world’s finest and most beautiful, to craft our furniture. Select from our expansive collection of full-aniline and protected leather, offering a wide range of finishes. No matter what your lifestyle, there’s a leather that is perfect for you.
Marks of Distinction
The finest natural leathers exhibit various surface markings and texture variations. These variations are caused by many factors including climate, location and age. Variations within the leather are not flaws and will not affect durability and strength.
Healed Scars
Healed scars are the result of scratches and are evidence that the cow lived in an unsheltered environment. Scars often absorb dyes differently than the surrounding areas of the hide.
Wrinkles
Natural skin folds located on the animal's neck allow movement of the head. These folds create handsome patterns when the hide is dyed.
Graining
Like fingerprints, graining is unique to each individual hide and varies slightly depending on the area of the hide from which it originates. No two hides are exactly alike.
Stretch Marks
These are caused by the calving process. The skin stretches creating interesting patterns on the hide.
Shades of Character
Full-grain aniline leather has natural, subtle variations in color and grain. Natural leather soaks up color during the dyeing process and this may create subtle shading variations due to the thickness and location on the hide. These are not flaws; rather they demonstrate that you have purchased nature’s finest leather with its own unique and natural character.
